Eat Your Backyard Community Day - Cultivate, in any space!
Growing edible produce and native plants in any space while promoting urban food resilience, is the main message of the day. There are also fun activities for the kids including an Eat your Hat parade and activities in the garden. There will be displays on Urban bee keeping and native bees, award winning revegetation examples by Nerang River Keepers, tours of the Nerang Community Gardens, worm farms, composting and aquaculture. Stall holders, demonstrations, delicious food and more.
Eat your Backyard will focus on providing locals with a central hub or meeting place to share ideas on how to utilise your own backyard to become more sustainable and self-sufficient. Food security for both humans and other species is our focus. Gecko invites you and your family and friends to join us at this free community event at the beautiful Country Paradise Parklands in Nerang.
One of the great activity for the kids on the day is the 'Eat Your Hat Parade' commencing at 12:00 pm. Make a hat at home out of leaves and flowers or edible produce then bring it along and join in the fun. 3 categories, 7 yrs and under, 8-12 yrs and 13 yrs to adult. The judges have a few prizes in the cupboard and you can read the full details about this 'Fashions From The Fields' event below:
